Get Golfing announce the pending takeover of Cobtree Manor!
Maidstone Borough Council and Get Golfing jointly announce that Get Golfing will be taking over Cobtree Manor on 1st October, pending the completion of all necessary legal processes, on a long lease. This exciting addition will mark the 12th site for Get Golfing, a specialist charitable golf operator, and their third new venue in 2023.
Situated near Maidstone in Kent, Cobtree Manor is conveniently located near Redlibbets, which happens to be Get Golfing’s first venue and head office base. Cobtree Manor has an 18-hole golf course and clubhouse that needs investment. Although it was once a popular destination for both new and experienced golfers, it has in recent years been in decline. The site has tremendous untapped potential and Get Golfing understands the work required to unlock this potential and is committed to making it possible. CEO Edward Richardson explained that “Get Golfing was created for just such an opportunity as this. We are a specialist golf operator who run as a charity where all surpluses are reinvested back into the venues. Our track record over the past five years shows over £7m of site investments and we expect to take Cobtree on the same path as all our other sites. This is through increased participation primarily due to the course conditions we provide supported with our attentive and motivated staff.”
Get Golfing take immense pride in delivering meticulously maintained courses and creating engaging and welcoming clubhouses. Their goal is to provide affordable and accessible golfing experiences for individuals of all skill levels. As a charitable organisation, their driving force is to increase participation in golf and foster a culture of inclusion at all their venues. Get Golfing actively promote the use of our facilities to non-golfers within the local communities and partner with other not-for-profit organisations to further their mission.
This exciting announcement comes on the heels of Get Golfing’s 5th birthday celebration. Since taking over Redlibbets Golf Club in Sevenoaks on 1st August 2018, they have grown into one of the largest golf operators in the UK. The journey has been truly remarkable, with over 500 staff and annual revenues of £20m with surpluses of around £3 million. These surpluses are reinvested back into their venues, staff development, and community initiatives, aligning with their overall objectives.
Over the past 5 years, Get Golfing has successfully grown and developed a dedicated community team to spearhead key initiatives. One such initiative is the Free School Meals programme, which targets less financially fortunate children who may not have had the opportunity to experience golf before. Through this programme, all participants throughout the year enjoy a safe environment, eat well, and experience a whole host of activities that includes golf. This initiative is provided by Get Golfing to its participants free of charge. Get Golfing are proud to make a difference through initiatives like offering free membership to kids at all their sites. Currently, over 1,300 juniors play free of charge at their venues, and there’s even more to come in the future.
