Get Golfing have finalised terms to take over Winter Hill Golf Club in Cookham, Maidenhead on a long term lease – this will happen on Friday 28th April.

Incorporated in 2018 with the objective of increasing participation in golf, Get Golfing has grown steadily with Winter Hill now becoming its tenth club. The charity is expected to invest in the club – both on the course and in the clubhouse – with the intention to make the venue more accessible to everyone.

John Lewis, the previous owners of Winter Hill, previously announced the intention to close the club at the beginning of March. The news of Get Golfing’s takeover comes as a great relief to those associated with the Club. The move also means that current members can continue playing at Winter Hill, and has received support from many of those including current captains Jane Ohlenschlager and Dave Stock.

Jane, captain of the Winter Hill Ladies’ team commented:

“We are delighted for all of the members at the club. Winter Hill means a lot to us and we are thrilled with this outcome.”

“Get Golfing has a strong track record. We’ve also spoken with members of other Get Golfing clubs and can see they’re firmly committed to the game. We’re also on the same page when it comes to involving the community”.

“With their management and our passionate support for our club and its membership, we’re really excited about our future and the potential to make even more of a positive local impact.”

Edward Richardson, CEO of Get Golfing, added:

“When we first heard about the plans to close the course, sell the land and disband the club, we immediately mobilised, reached out to our contacts and started to engage with John Lewis. They were receptive to our cause and our plans – we cannot thank them enough for their support.”

Get Golfing look forward to starting the journey at Winter Hill, welcoming members and visitors alike to the club.
